We did have harder winters in the
past! These photos are of Fore Street in St. Dennis. The one on
the right was taken in 1905 and in the centre of the frame is a
carbide lamp. Click on any picture if you want to see a full size
version.
The interior of the church was sadly destroyed by fire on May 31st 1985. All the beautifully painted beams in this photo were lost, but some good always comes from such disasters. The church has been refurbished and modernised, fit for the twenty first century.
Do you recognise any of
the pupils outside the St Dennis Council School in 1923?
If you do, why not let us know by leaving a message in the guest book.
This was the queue outside The Plaza in 1932. Do you remember going there?
It was demolished in 1964, and there are now three houses and a doctors surgery standing where the cinema used to be.
One of these pictures of boys football teams
was taken about 1952, and the other around 1981.
Do you remember either of these photos being taken?
Fore Street in St. Dennis around 1905, as seen from the post office.
Fore Street again as seen from the junction with Trelavour Road. This picture was taken during the 2nd world war and shows white lines painted on the walls on the corner, which were to help drivers during the blackout.
The old St Dennis Post office is now a private cottage, and it is near the new post office. The picture was taken at the turn of the century, and the sepia tone has been colourised. This was often done for postcards before the advent of colour photography.
Children walking to school through Trelavour Square, 50 years ago. It hasn't changed much has it?
Provident Chapel was used for a long time as a carpet store for John Nance. You can see the Post office in the background, and trees growing in the centre of St Dennis.
Prazey looks very much the same now as it did 100 years ago
