LAMBS

When the brown grass turns to green, the fields all around us start to green.
Bright yellow daffodils start to unfold, new born lambs start entering the shivering cold.
As Spring is already here, my favourite season of the year,
I wait and watch the pregnant sheep, hoping that my first lamb will soon start to leap.

They're so white and fluffy, cute and sweet, every single lamb makes my life complete.
Playing around in a pen with their mums, waiting for milk to refill their tums.
When teatime comes lambs like to run around and play, while their mothers munch on corn and hay.

Lambs are so cool, like the colour of their wool. I name each one that loses their mum.
The orphans need to be bottle fed twice a day, at least until the end of May.
The lambs jump up and say "Hey", when milk comes their way.

When it's summer the lambs grow up and leave their mother,
They're all grown up but still miss their mums, but
know it's time to go and play in the sun.

Hello everyone!

I have been asked to introduce myself as the new Head teacher at St.Dennis CP School, so here goes…………..

I have been a Head teacher at two previous schools and look forward to moving my new school forward during the coming years.

Before entering the teaching profession I worked in manufacturing industry involving metal fabrication and engineering for many years.

My wife is a nurse who works at a doctor’s surgery and I have a twelve year old son who is in year eight at his secondary school.

I have already been impressed by the quality of staff and the attitude of the children at St. Dennis and am certain we have a bright future together.

I am keen to ensure that our children have an exciting time at school here and are presented with the best opportunities possible as we help to prepare them for the future.

That’s probably enough from me for now except to say please introduce yourself if you see me out and about, it will be a pleasure to meet you!

Walker's Corner

There are some very ancient footpaths in and around St Dennis and they were often used to walk to church.

This walk starts at the sundial at Trelavour Prazey.

Walk about 100 yards towards Indian Queens and turn right onto a public footpath by Biddick's cottage. Follow the path about half way up the hill, and you have a choice of directions. You can then carry on up, through a cow gate to a stone stile opposite Carne Hill Chapel, and then turn left on Carne Hill and walk down to the public footpath to the church.

Alternatively you can turn left into the fields and follow a well worn path across 3 fields, then turn right, go through one kissing gate to the next kissing gate which is on Carne Hill, opposite the footpath to the church.

Walk up the footpath to St Denys Church and go into the church yard.

To the left of the church is the old christening font. Follow the path past this and then go over the hedge by means of the style into the fields. The views from here are spectacular.

Turn right into the next field then follow the path all the way down the hill to a gate which comes out opposite Penrose Veor farm.

Turn right and walk along the road till the next turning right. Walk up this hill until you have another choice. You can turn right and walk up Steep Carne to the church, or you can carry on to Mena.

If you go along the road towards Mena, you will come to a turning right up another public footpath. This will take you up a lane, then across a field to the lower side of the cemetery, and so back to St Dennis.

A HUGE THANK YOU to.......

The St Dennis Cancer Committee would like to thank the secretary, club and members of the ST AUSTELL GOLF CLUB for their generosity and kindness extended to the committee during three events recently.  We attended at the Golf Club for three days during the Stapleford, Ladies Day and Men's Open competitions where we sold raffle tickets in aid of Cancer Research UK .  We had a great time and the club made us very welcome.  We have been attending the St Austell Golf Club in this way for the last 28 years, raising something in the region of £40,000.  This year, with the added surprise of a cheque for £1,000 presented by last year's Lady Captain, Mrs Pat Walker, we raised a total of £2,600.  We never fail to be impressed by the generosity of the club and it's members, we cannot thank them enough.

***********

ANOTHER HUGE THANK YOU to......

The St Dennis Area Community Magazine would like to thank Mr Ivor Bowditch and The Imerys Community Relations Fund for the very kind donation of £500 to help with the running costs of the magazine.  It is a very kind gesture and provides us with funds which we desperately need.  The running costs for the magazine have escalated due to the fact that we can no longer obtain subsidised printing and so must bear the full cost of this.  The cheque from Imerys could not have come at a better time and we thank them for coming to our rescue in this time.  We know that they help at least two other villages in this way and are indebted to them for their help.

St Dennis Childrens Centre

‘The centre, situated on St Dennis Community Primary School, offers a range of play activities for fun and early learning, various health services, a nursery, and access to training and development for parents and carers.

It is one of Childrens Centres being developed by Cornwall County Councils Family Services across the county. The aim is that all young children and their families in Cornwall will be able to access children’s centre facilities by 2010.

Further services at the centre and surrounding areas could include activities with health visitors and midwives, a baby group, breast feeding group, a range of play sessions, access to a toy library service, training, and fun activities run by parent and carer volunteers. There are 2 Family Support Workers linked to this centre. They will help families in many different ways with advice on parenting, signposting and liasing with agencies, budgeting, and support to do training or volunteering. They are able to help if you need any support with your family.

For further information on St Dennis Children’s Centre please contact Amy Williams on 01726 874010 or visit www.cornwall.gov.uk/familyservices

PARISH COUNCIL NEWS.

The Parish Council meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the ClayTAWC Centre. All meetings start at 7 p.m.  The public are very welcome to attend. There is a regular agenda item of 10 minutes duration when members of the public may speak and raise their particular concerns.

Notes from the Parish Council meeting held on the 8th April.

a)   The Council received a presentation from Mr Tony Lee of Restormel B.C. on the subject of ‘affordable housing’. In a very interesting presentation Mr Lee explained the Borough Council’s policy with regard to affordable housing and what action was being taken to achieve the target number of houses required. With regard to St Dennis Mr Lee said that if St Dennis had a parish plan containing data on the demand for affordable housing in the parish it would be extremely useful to the Borough Council in its assessment of the problem.

b)   The Community Policing report showed that there had been 6 reported crimes in March of which 3 had been detected. The total number of reported crimes during the last year totalled 65 compared with 98 for the previous year, a reduction of 33.6%.

c)   A member of the public referred to the proposed amenity area to be provided on land to the rear of Dunstans Close and expressed concern over who would be responsible for the maintenance of the area. It was explained that the amenity area would be provided by the developers of the Dunstan Close houses and was a condition of the planning consent issued by Restormel Borough Council. The developers would be responsible for the maintenance of the area and if they failed to do this action would be taken by the Borough Council.

d)   The Council received a report from County Councillor Higman setting out the latest position with regard to the change over to the new Unitary Authority for Cornwall.

e)   The Council have received a commissioned report on the safety of the memorials in the Cemetery. The report highlighted that a total of 111 memorials (approx 12%) required remedial works  and the Council’s Cemetery Committee will be considering the report in detail with regard to what action may be appropriate.

f)      The accounts for the financial year 2007/08 were considered and approved. The accounts showed a surplus of £3,804 for the year and a general surplus of £5,582 carried forward together with reserves of £30,260 earmarked for specific projects.
