LOST CAT - FOUND

We would like to thank everyone who rang up or came around with information (and even cats!) about our missing ginger cat “Tom”. We are delighted to report that Tom was found at a farm in Foxhole and is now back home being very spoilt.

Remembrance Sunday

Revd Arthur, and members of St Denys Church, would like to thank the many organisations who took part in the parade, attended the Service of Remembrance and the wreath laying ceremonies. Grateful thanks to Mr Alan Trethewey, parade organiser, also to the traffic control police and especially, St Dennis Band who, having played and marched effortlessly up the hill, continued by leading the hymns and also during the wreath laying ceremonies. Grateful thanks also to Flight Lieutenant Thomas of RAF St Mawgan for attending and reading the lesson, also to Revd Balsdon for preaching. This year the parade continued from the war memorial to Hendra Road Methodist Church for a poignant dedication of the Enniscaven Roll of Honour.

We do hope the many local and district organisations will accept our grateful thanks for their support. Thanks also to the poppy collectors, the local businesses who support this and Mr Martin Best, the St Dennis Poppy Appeal organiser, who says he has once again received a phenomenal response, with an increase in the total monies collected for the Earl Haig Fund.

Well done, St Dennis.

Christmas Message.

Dear Friends,

I am pleased that this newsletter is being produced for the St Dennis area, and thank those involved in its production and distribution.  Sharing news happened at the very first Christmas.  Angels appeared to the shepherds and one said, ‘I bring you good news of great joy...  a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.  You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’

The coming of Jesus Christ was good news for this troubled world.  Jesus Christ still brings to this needy world God’s love, peace, joy, salvation, and much more.  You are invited to attend any of the local churches to celebrate Jesus’ birth.

May the Good News of Jesus Christ help you to enjoy the Christmas season.

Rev Derek Balsdon.

On your bike!!

Did you know that there is a new footpath and cycle path open on the old A30 road?

You can access the path in both directions. Either, go past the Screech Owl sanctuary and over the bridge to a little park, or go to the end of the Tregoss road and turn left into a car park.

It is ideal if you want to take a walk and your kids want to ride their bikes.

There is also a sandy horse track next to the path. This path goes right up to the iron bridge and then goes across the moor.

I am sure we will hear more about these paths as the leisure trails are completed.

DOG MESS IN THE VILLAGE

The ongoing problem of dog mess throughout the village is still causing problems, especially in the roads and lanes leading up to school.  An approach has been made to Restormel Borough Council's Dog Warden who is the person responsible for dealing with this sort of problem and he has confirmed that he will visit the village.  He will clean up where he can and check that we have sufficient signs and bins.  He points out that it is an offense to allow pets to foul the roads and pathways which carries a £50 fine.  Most dog owners are very responsible and St Dennis is a great place to live, so lets try to keep our roads and pathways clean.

A proud and concerned resident.

My Christmas List

We were talking together of Christmas

And how quickly it came round each year,

Of turkey and pudding and presents,

And wasn’t everything incredibly dear?

Wasn’t it hard to know what to give folks?

So we decided we’d all write a list,

That way everyone would be happy

And none of our friends would be missed.

So I sat down in my comfy old armchair

And picked up my paper and pen

There must be dozens of things that I needed

Had wanted for ages – but then…

I found they had lost their importance

Now I know just what I must choose

Not as exciting as perfume or wine

But these things I really can use!

Understanding, compassion and caring

To replace what has drifted away

And to know what the other mans feeling

To walk in his shoes for one day

A little self knowledge would be a good thing

Not to much, I can’t handle a lot

Perhaps just enough to know when to speak

But most of all, know when to stop!

Then, last in my stocking,

Right down in the toe,

A small seed of hope

That I can watch grow and grow

Till it covers the world

With a forest of love,

If we want it enough

We can make it so.

From Clarice Westlake

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND

HAPPY NEW YEAR

PARISH COUNCIL NEWS.

The Parish Council meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the ClayTAWC Centre.

All meetings start at 7 p.m. and the public are very welcome to attend. There is a regular agenda item of 10 minutes duration when members of the public may speak and raise their particular concerns.

Notes from the Parish Council meeting held on 13th November.

  1. PCSO Fisher reported that there had been 6 reported crimes during October of which 3 had been detected .PCSO Fisher also reported on the proposed football coaching scheme to be run by PC Dingle for youngsters from the village aged 9-15 years. This follows the coaching already underway for children up to 9 years old. .The Parish Council is very supportive of this initiative and will be considering a possible donation at the next Council meeting.

  2. The Council received reports from County Councillor Higman on County issues and Borough Councillor Wood on Borough Council matters. Both Councillors Higman and Wood emphasised the importance of a Parish Plan being produced for St Dennis which could open up avenues of funding from outside of the Parish and also keep the Parish in the forefront of developments as more opportunities become available to parishes to have more control over services in their areas.

  3. Payments for the month of October totalling £2,646.10 were approved and the Council noted the quarterly report on its financial position as at 30th September.

  4. The Council received a report on the progress of the new magazine and a letter of thanks from the Magazine Group for its initial donation of £500.

  5. Council approved donations of £75 to the Royal British Legion for Remembrance Day wreaths and £200 to the St Dennis Brownie Guides.

  6. The Council agreed to investigate the possibility of taking over Borough Council assets within the Parish when the new Unitary Authority is established.

  7. Reports from the Planning Committee on local planning applications and the General Purposes & Audit Committee on the Council’s risk assessment review were received and approved.
